Petra the bear was fitted with a radio collar: the moments before the "capture"

After several raids, especially at night in Lecce Nei Marsi, in the province of L'Aquila, Petra the bear was equipped with a radio collar to monitor her movements. In the images, the moments preceding the 'capture' of the plantigrade (who was 'walking' near a condominium in the hamlet of Vallemora) by a specialized team composed of veterinarians and biologists, with the support of park rangers and forestry police. Petra is an adult bear estimated to be 8-10 years old, fond of the territory of the small Marsican town that she began to frequent in 2023 attracted by the waste, as well as dog biscuits, and by what she found in small landfills. Despite the safety of some bins or the regulation of door-to-door collection, with the ban on leaving waste at night, the bear continued her "visits".
